About me
I am a fully qualified and insured teacher of yoga. I completed my three year training with the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) in 2008. Before this I was a teacher of French and Spanish, but have also taught Personal and Social Education (specialising in health education) and A level psychology.
I started yoga in the 70s but only trained to teach it much later. For me yoga is very special; it is a way to stretch, maintain suppleness and develop strength but also to move out of the world of "chattering monkeys" for a little while and to return refreshed.
I enjoy learning and was very happy when I took early retirement to be accepted onto Derek Thorne's diploma course for British Wheel of Yoga (BWY). I enjoy working with people and using my skills to teach yoga seemed a fine step after years in state schools. The BWY is recognised by the Sport and Recreation Alliance and Sport England as the national governing body for yoga in the UK and provides the highest level of training for yoga teachers (NVQ Level 4). I am committed to my continuous professional development and, as well as doing the required minimum of two in service trainings per year, I arrange training days for local yoga teachers in Somerset as a voluntary representative for BWY Somerset. This gives me lots of opportunity to meet and learn from inspiring teachers from across UK. I have lived in Somerset since the 70s and love it! I am married with two children and four grandchildren. It was the birth of my first granddaughter that inspired me to learn more about yoga for pregnancy and to teach yoga. I have been interested in supporting pregnant mums since the birth of my own children and used to be a breast feeding councillor with La Leche League then later a ParentLink advisor, so to re-visit this area seems so right. |
