About the yoga classes

Yoga is non-competitive; it is about personal progression. Gentle effort is all that is expected. At all times you should listen to your body and do only what feels right to you on the day. At the beginning of a yoga class you will lie down, close your eyes and learn to settle mind and body by following your breath. This is followed by a gentle stretch leading to a more vigorous warm-up so that the joints are taken through their full range of movements. Classical asanas or postures are taught but alternatives are always given so that everything can be accessible. There is a strong focus on safety: in particular care is taken of the knees, neck and lower back. The teacher may demonstrate new asanas, do them alongside students or go round to adjust or help. At the end of each yoga class students are taught breathing exercises and, in particular, how to use the breath to help relax the body. This is followed by a relaxation session which may include guided visualisation, music or an introduction to meditation. All of my yoga classes include some physical exercise, breathing techniques and relaxation. There are, however, different classes which may be more suitable for your specific needs. |
- Gentle yoga ... a gentle start to the week
- Very gentle yoga with yoga nidra ... mainly done in chairs, with lots of gentle movements to free the joints and a focus on relaxing
- Mixed ability hatha yoga ... a class for anyone when you work to your own level
- Yoga for pregnancy ... concentrates on helping the body and the mind to prepare for birth by focused attention and breathing techniques.
Where classes are held
Classes are held in a variety of village halls or centres,but if the weather is really good we sometimes go outside!
